Sorry that there was no posting last week. I started the week with good intensions of telling you all about the York Makers Spring Fair, which I was busy preparing for last time we chatted. I was soooo busy at the Fair that I completely forgot to take any photos. I know! I’m gutted: the Fair went so well, chatting to lots and lots of lovely people and making a few sales. Then last week, turned into one of those weeks: the truth is last week is going to take me quite a while to get over. Don’t worry everything is, or will be fine, last week just took an awful lot of my energy and I still feel a bit fuzzy from it. I’m very glad that, here in England, we have a lovely long weekend to look forward to. To try and clear my head, Si and I decided to have a day out, we went to the stunning Brimham Rocks. And, yes, I did remember to take my camera. The rock formation are Mother Nature’s way of showing off her skill, they really are awe-inspiring….
The sun was shining and the trees were telling us that Spring is here…
I was so inspired that I decided to start a Pinterest board of stones, if you want to see more inspirational stones have a look HERE and if you want to see more about what inspires me have a look HERE.
Remember that you can also find me on Facebook HERE and on Ravelry HERE
I hope that you all have a lovely weekend whatever you do try and connect with nature and do something creative.
In less than forty-eight hours byhelen will be at her first, ever, craft fair. Eeeeeeeeek! I’ll be spending the next forty-eight hours getting ready for the craft fair. At the start of the year I joined a lovely community York Makers: an amazing group that shares ideas and skills, hosts workshops, offers support and hosts fairs.
My bunting is made and ready…
Lots and lots and lots of flowers have bloomed…
More flowers for bespoke orders…
Lots of planning has gone into the look of my stall…
And in case you want to pop-along, a reminder of the where and when…
It’s going to be an amazing fair, with over twenty-five stalls, workshops and cake!
I’m actually really excited about the fair, can’t wait to share it with you next week. If you are in the York area, do pop-in and say hello: I’d love to meet you!
Morning lovelies. Are you ready for a lovely l-o-n-g weekend? I certainly am. It’s going to be busy! Tomorrow I’m helping out on a York Makers stall, where a few of us are showcasing our makes and promoting what we do and our Spring Fair. The stall is part of the Bishy RoadE By Eck, street party, here in York, to celebrate the Tour de Yorkshire. Sorting out the stall, for tomorrow, and the one next Saturday, has taken quite a lot of my time. I’m very conscious that I haven’t shared much crochet with you recently – I hope you don’t mind? Normalish services will resume shortly! Today I thought I’d share some inspiration with you, it comes from Metalwork Galleries at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, which Si and me visited a few weeks ago...
Amazing aren’t they? Hope they provide you with some inspiration for your weekend makes!
Have you noticed that there seems to be blossom everywhere? I love the display that the trees are putting on at the moment, all pink and white and fluffy…
It always reminds me of one of my very favourite crochets…
You can find the pattern for the crochet blossom HERE ( oh, yes, it is still one of my very favourite patterns).
I’ve often turned my crochet blossom into hair blossom…
This week it has been all about hair blossom, I’ve lost count of how many I’ve crocheted. Here are just a few
Why so many blossoms? I hear you ask. Good question. I’m getting ready for my very first York Makers craft fair, where I’ll be selling my flowers. If you want to pop-along, it would be lovely to see you…
I hope it is lovely and sunny where-ever you are? It is here in York; there is real warmth in the air. At the moment life is r-e-a-l-l-y busy for me: there is so many exciting things happening (all at once) that I have hardly had time to stop. Don’t worry I’ll be sharing these things with you, over the coming weeks! For now I wanted to share with you a small, little, blanket that I’ve been crocheting for a friend who is having a baby (she actually had her little girl yesterday). I had lots of yarn left over from crocheting my Lucy blanket so I thought that they would made a great baby blanket. I think that I was right…
I really hope that the new baby loves it and that she spends many happy hours snuggled up in it!
A few weeks ago Si and I decided to head to London for a few days. While in London we walked and walked and walked: we did lots of sight-seeing and spent lots of time wandering around the streets. On one of our wanderings we came across the most amazing art installation hanging on the walls near local shops and cafes. I thought that you’d like to see, so I took lots of pictures for you. Ready for some shape, pattern and colour? Good…
The installation is by the talented artist DaleDevereux Barker. I love his use of shape, pattern and colour. I hope you find it as inspiring!
Ok, so at the start of March I told you that even though March had entered like a lion, it was ok, because she would end like a lamb. I don’t think that March read my blog! For the last few days York, and much of the UK, has seen gale force winds and pouring rain. Now, it’s April, it’s Easter at the weekend: Spring has to be close by. The trees, bushes and bulbs agree with me: they are making their very best effort to show us that Spring is here, treating us to delights of buds and blossoms…
So it has to be true? Spring IS here. Enjoy your long Easter weekend, may it be full of rest, relaxation, rebirth and Spring!
You know, or hopefully you do by now, how much I love flowers. I love all flowers; real, crocheted, fabric, any type of flower I just LOVE them. For a few years (oh gosh years) I have been teaching fabric flower workshops to the lovely ladies at The Silver Thimble. I will be running workshops there again this year, so I thought that I should look at making a new type of fabric flower. I don’t want the lovely ladies getting bored after-all! So, that is what I have been crafting for a few weeks now, a new type of fabric flower. Want to see how I have got along? Ok…
I’m really rather pleased with how they have turned out. I can’t wait to share how to make these at The Silver Thimble, if you want to come along the workshop is on Friday 19th June 10:00 4:00 and costs £30.00, you can book on HERE.
I am also going to be taking the fabric flowers along to the York Makers Spring Fair on Saturday 9th May at Clements Hall, York, as I think that they would be just lovely for an alternative wedding bouquet.
Really hope that you like them as much as I do! Let me know, I’d love to know what you think. You can comment here or find me on Facebook HERE.
I’ve decided that Spring is here. The weather may be disagreeing, but there are definitely signs of Spring springing. I decided to crochet a Spring garland in celebration. I am sooooo happy with how it turned out, I had to share it with you…
I hope you like it? I thought I’d share the pattern with you, so that you can have a little bit of Spring, no matter what the weather decides to do this weekend. I used five different colours of DK yarn, but I’ll leave the colour and yarn choice for you to decide. You’ll also need a yarn appropriate hood, scissors and a needle. To make the flowers, you’ll need to crochet a puff stitch (ps), I’ve provided instruction for this at the end on the main pattern. For those of you that don’t need photograph instructions, or want to copy and paste the pattern, just scroll to the bottom of this post. OK? Ready? Here we go…

March is here like a lion: hopefully that means she will leave like a lamb and this cold weather will end. Don’t get me wrong, I am a massive fan of Winter (it is one of my favourite seasons) but I have had enough now and would like some warmth. I think that Mother Nature must also be getting restless with Winter. Have you noticed? She is slowly, slowly starting her Spring show, reminding us that Spring is just around the corner and that the Earth is beginning to warm-up and wake-up from its Winter sleep. A few days ago I wrapped-up and headed out with my friend and her little girl, in search of Spring. And we found Spring in abundance. I took my camera along, so that you could see for yourself…
Spring is on its way, so this weekend, wherever you are, go for a walk and say good morning to the World as it wakes for another year…
Oh and if you are inside, this weekend, don’t forget that you can find me on Facebook HERE
