In just a few weeks time, 36 days to be exact, York is set for an invasion of cyclists as the Tour de France comes to Yorkshire. The city is getting excited and so am I. I have to confess that cycling isn’t my sort of thing, I can’t remember the last time I actually cycled anywhere. But tour fever has started to hit me. I’m looking forward to all the events that go with the tour: the cutural events and the Bishy Road street party, afterwards! One of the cultural events is going to be a yarnbomb! Yippppeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Last week there was a yarnbomb workshop, to make the bits and pieces that will make the bomb itself. The workshop was in the Reading Cafe (a genius concept of tea, cakes and books) in Rowntree Park, just five minute dawdle from my home…
Please note: the above is the Reading cafe, not my home! The workshop was hosted by Hippy Stitch, who is the brains and creative influence behind the yarnbomb. Hippy Stitch was responsible for last year's yarnbomb in the Rowntree Park, in the sunny days of last summer. This workshop wasn’t quite as freeform as the last yarnbomb: with more prescriptive colours relating to the tour: yellows, greens, whites and reds…
Some of the talented knitters had made little yellow jerseys, to turn into bunting…
There was no crocheting (sigh) so I spent a very happy afternoon making chatting to friends and making pom-poms…
Can’t wait to see what the yarnbomb will look like. It will be on display from the 4th June, in Rowntree Park, York; I hope that some of you will be able to pop along? Don’t worry if you can’t: there’ll be picis here very soon…
