Having to change track, just for a while. I am busy making friendship bracelets, though I am reluctant to admit it. Here’s my dilemma. I am a re-enactor. I dress in period costume from the 15th Century. You know those people you see when you visit castles, abbeys, etc, usually sat around fires, sleeping in tents and then go off and fight each other with swords (though I don’t do the latter).
What I do is I make laces, which tie clothes together. I do this very authentically, as in the British Library there is a manuscript from the 15thCentury there is a manual – giving us the instructions. I think this is pretty cool. There is a really great web-site and on-line community which specialise in this Soper Lane it is worth having a look!
Anyhow most people think that I am making friendship bracelets. So do I jump on the band-wagon, embrace this and try and make some money from this. Naturally I will be there correcting people, demonstrating authentically.
As I blog this, one question comes to mind. What would be medieval person have done. Now we will never know this. Trust me – I have written papers and a thesis on this exact question. Though I would suspect that if they had an opportunity to trade, they would have!
Will let you know what I decide.
